SSACAB updated Dr Sarah Ogutu

Dr Sarah Ogutu is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, jointly funded by DSI-Africa, WASHA Takwimu, and SSACAB II. She recently completed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Statistics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where she also obtained her MSc in Statistics. She has extensive experience in statistics teaching, research, and the application of advanced analytical methods to complex health and population datasets.

Dr Ogutu’s research interests span advanced statistical methodologies and machine learning approaches for high-dimensional, longitudinal, and survival data. Her current thematic focus explores the nexus between climate change, nutrition, and obesity, with the goal of generating evidence to inform public health interventions and policy development across African settings.

Her research journey has also been enriched through international collaborations, including a research visit to Fred Hutch Cancer Center in Seattle, USA, where she strengthened her expertise in analyzing health-related datasets in infectious disease and vaccine research. Beyond academia, Dr Ogutu enjoys sports, nature walks, mentorship, and community engagement initiatives. She remains passionate about inspiring young minds, fostering academic excellence, and contributing to impactful research that addresses pressing societal challenges.
