Celebrating impactful science communication and meaningful engagement on global health and inequality!

SSACAB is proud to highlight the remarkable contributions of Beth Amato, SSACAB’s communications officer, who recently represented the organisation in two significant high-level engagements focused on public health, inequality, and research communication.

Beth had the honour of serving on a panel of journalists and science communicators engaging with medical students from Northwestern University (Chicago) during their learning tour in South Africa. The discussion explored the critical role of public health research communication, with students gaining deeper insights into the social determinants of health in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and how these shape health outcomes and healthcare systems. 🌍🩺

The engagement offered an important opportunity to reflect on how effective science communication helps translate complex public health research into accessible and meaningful insights for diverse audiences while strengthening connections between research, policy, and communities.

In another proud moment for SSACAB, Beth participated in a high-level cross-country discussion during the launch of the Global Inequality Panel Report at the Wits School of Governance. Opened by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa following the establishment of the Intergovernmental Panel on Inequality, the event convened influential leaders, policymakers, researchers, and development partners to engage on critical conversations around inequality, inclusive growth, and sustainable development. 🌍🎤

These engagements reflect the growing importance of informed communication, research translation, and public engagement in addressing complex societal challenges. They also highlight SSACAB’s expanding contribution to shaping conversations that matter — across academia, policy, and broader society.

Congratulations to Beth Amato on representing SSACAB with professionalism and excellence while advancing meaningful dialogue on public health, inequality, and global development. 👏
