What an exceptional and inspiring experience at the Society for Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes of South Africa (SEMDSA) Congress in Cape Town! 🌍✨

A special congratulations to Abebaw Azene, a SSACAB fellow, who was awarded Best Oral Presentation in Clinical Diabetes for his presentation titled, “Diabetic complications among people living with type 2 diabetes in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Systematic review and Meta-analysis”. 👏🏽🏆 This outstanding achievement reflects his dedication to advancing diabetes research and highlights the high standard of scholarship, innovation, and impact fostered through the SSACAB programme.
His research contributes valuable insights into the burden and progression of diabetes-related complications in South Africa, highlighting the importance of longitudinal evidence in informing patient care and public health interventions. This outstanding achievement reflects his dedication to advancing diabetes research and underscores the high standard of scholarship, innovation, and impact fostered through the SSACAB programme.

Special recognition goes to Prof Farzahna Mohamed, pictured alongside Abebaw Azene, whose mentorship and guidance have contributed significantly to his research journey. As a member of the Division of Endocrinology, School of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand, Prof Mohamed continues to make valuable contributions to advancing diabetes and endocrinology research while supporting the development of emerging researchers in the field.
Recognition is also extended to Dr Marli Conradie-Smit, Head of Endocrinology at Stellenbosch University and Tygerberg Academic Hospital, for her leadership and dedication to advancing endocrinology, diabetes, metabolism, and obesity medicine. Through her contributions to research, medical education, guideline development, and professional societies, she continues to play an important role in strengthening the field and fostering scientific excellence.
